If your plan only names a psychologist.

Anchor & Bloom is a psychotherapy practice. Our clinicians are registered with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. We are not psychologists, and we do not use that title. Some benefit booklets still list only psychologist. That is a plan rule, not a reason to guess.

What each profession can do.

A psychologist can complete formal psychological assessment and diagnosis. A Registered Psychotherapist provides psychotherapy. We cannot diagnose ADHD or another condition, write a psychological report, or prescribe medication. If that is what you need, we will say so and point you toward the right kind of help.

Many employer plans now cover Registered Psychotherapist services under mental health or paramedical benefits. Some still do not. The only reliable check is the exact wording in your booklet or a call to the number on your benefits card.

What to ask

Use the words in the plan, not a synonym.

Provider type

Ask whether the plan covers a Registered Psychotherapist, and separately whether it covers a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying).

Not counselling only

Some booklets say counselling or psychology and still exclude psychotherapy. Ask for the exact covered titles.

If the answer is no

Ask HR whether the list can be updated. If it cannot, sessions here are paid out of pocket, and a psychologist may be the covered option.

Common questions.

Is a Registered Psychotherapist the same as a psychologist?

No. Psychologists in Ontario are regulated by the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario and can perform formal psychological assessment and diagnosis. Registered Psychotherapists are regulated by CRPO and provide psychotherapy. We do not diagnose, prescribe, or complete psychological assessments.

What if my plan only lists psychologist?

Ask the insurer whether Registered Psychotherapist or Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) is also covered under mental health or paramedical benefits. Some booklets still use older wording. If the plan only pays psychologists, sessions here are out of pocket unless your administrator updates the list.

Should I see a psychologist instead?

If you need a formal diagnosis, a psychoeducational assessment, or a report for school, court, or disability, a psychologist or physician is the right professional. If you want ongoing talk therapy, an RP may be the fit. The consultation is the place to sort that out.

Confirm coverage, then decide fit.
