Why Burlington

Couples in Burlington and Halton.

Burlington sits between two worlds: close enough to Toronto and Hamilton that at least one partner is often commuting, far enough that a therapist in either city means a lost evening. The couples we see from Burlington are frequently mid-life, with teenagers, a parent in care, and a relationship that has been running on autopilot since the kids were small. Online sessions from the kitchen table after 8 pm are the most common shape the work takes.

We also see many Burlington couples in second marriages and blended families, where the pattern in the room is not just the two of you but the ghosts of a previous relationship and the loyalties of children who did not choose the arrangement. That is ordinary couples work here, and it is handled with care rather than treated as a complication.

What we work on

The patterns couples bring.

The same argument on repeat

One partner pursues, the other withdraws, and the topic changes but the shape never does. We slow the cycle down until both of you can see it from the outside.

Repair after a rupture

Trust that took a hit, from a betrayal or from years of small misses. Repair is deliberate work, and it is possible when both partners want it.

Parallel lives

Two competent people running a household like a logistics company, with the closeness leaking out the sides. Common in dual-career and new-parent couples.

Two families, two cultures

Interfaith, intercultural and immigrant partnerships where the pull of family expectations lands unevenly on each of you.

Before the wedding

Pre-marital work on money, children, faith, in-laws and conflict style, before those conversations become emergencies.

Deciding whether to stay

Discernment work when one or both of you is unsure. The goal is clarity you both own, not a verdict from us.

How it starts

The first few weeks.

It begins with a free 15-minute consultation, ideally with both of you on the call. You describe what brought you here, we describe how we work, and you decide whether the fit feels right. Nobody is assessed and nothing is decided on that call.

Most couples book the 80-minute session for the first appointment. Fifty minutes is enough to maintain momentum later, but rarely enough to get a full picture of two people at the start. From there a weekly or biweekly rhythm is typical, reviewed together as the work settles.

Your therapist takes no sides in session. The client is the relationship, and the work is with the pattern between you rather than with either person's list of grievances.

Crisis support

If one of you needs help right now.

Anchor & Bloom is not a crisis service. If either of you is in crisis in Burlington, the following are available:

  • Suicide Crisis Helpline: call or text 988 (24/7, Canada-wide)
  • Talk Suicide Canada: 1-833-456-4566 (24/7), text 45645 (4 pm to midnight ET)

Common questions from couples in Burlington.

Do you have an office in Burlington?

No. Our office is at 6700 Century Ave in Mississauga, about 25 to 30 minutes from Burlington via the 403 outside rush hour. Burlington couples mostly work with us online, and some come in person for the first sessions.

What if we have very different schedules?

Online sessions remove the drive, which is usually the thing that makes two schedules impossible to line up. Evening and some weekend slots exist. If one partner is often away for work, both partners can join the same Jane video session from different locations.

What does couples therapy cost?

Couples sessions are $200 for 50 minutes or $290 for 80 minutes, HST-exempt. The 15-minute consultation is free. Receipts come through Jane. Many extended health plans cover Registered Psychotherapist services, though couples sessions are sometimes treated differently from individual therapy, so check your plan first.

We are a blended family. Is that couples therapy or family therapy?

Often it starts as couples work, because the partnership is what holds the household together, and family sessions can be added if the children are old enough and it would help. We will talk through which makes sense on the free consultation rather than sorting you into a category in advance.

Which clinicians see Burlington couples?

Katelyn Matias, Daniella Simas Medeiros, Rashin Heydari-Alamdari, Kristen Lawrynowycz and Mahima Chauhan see couples in person in Mississauga or online. Julia Malynka works with couples online, including in Russian and Ukrainian. Rashin also works in Farsi and Mahima in Gujarati and Hindi.

Start with one calm conversation.

The 15-minute couples consultation is free and has no obligation.
