Couples therapy · Hamilton

Couples therapy for Hamilton partners.

Online couples therapy for partners in Hamilton, Dundas, Ancaster, Stoney Creek and Waterdown, with in-person sessions available at our Mississauga office for couples who want to be in the room. Attachment-based and EFT-informed work for committed partnerships, with CRPO-registered clinicians who take no sides.

We do not have a Hamilton office, and at 40 to 45 minutes on the 403 we do not expect most Hamilton couples to drive. What Hamilton couples get from us is online work with a practice that has six clinicians doing couples therapy, evening availability, and sessions in English, Farsi, Gujarati, Hindi, Russian and Ukrainian.

Why Hamilton

Couples in Hamilton and the surrounding communities.

Hamilton couples come with a wider spread of circumstances than most cities we serve: healthcare and education workers on rotating shifts, trades and industrial schedules that do not respect a 7 pm appointment, students and young families priced out of Toronto and rebuilding a life on the Mountain or in the lower city, and long-established couples in Ancaster or Dundas whose children have left. Online sessions bend around all of that in a way a fixed office hour cannot.

Hamilton has public and community mental health services, and waits for couples-specific support are often long. We are not a replacement for that system. We are a private option for couples who want to start this month, with a clinician they chose, and who want the work to continue at the pace the relationship needs rather than the pace a waitlist allows.

What we work on

The patterns couples bring.

The same argument on repeat

One partner pursues, the other withdraws, and the topic changes but the shape never does. We slow the cycle down until both of you can see it from the outside.

Repair after a rupture

Trust that took a hit, from a betrayal or from years of small misses. Repair is deliberate work, and it is possible when both partners want it.

Parallel lives

Two competent people running a household like a logistics company, with the closeness leaking out the sides. Common in dual-career and new-parent couples.

Two families, two cultures

Interfaith, intercultural and immigrant partnerships where the pull of family expectations lands unevenly on each of you.

Before the wedding

Pre-marital work on money, children, faith, in-laws and conflict style, before those conversations become emergencies.

Deciding whether to stay

Discernment work when one or both of you is unsure. The goal is clarity you both own, not a verdict from us.

How it starts

The first few weeks.

It begins with a free 15-minute consultation, ideally with both of you on the call. You describe what brought you here, we describe how we work, and you decide whether the fit feels right. Nobody is assessed and nothing is decided on that call.

Most couples book the 80-minute session for the first appointment. Fifty minutes is enough to maintain momentum later, but rarely enough to get a full picture of two people at the start. From there a weekly or biweekly rhythm is typical, reviewed together as the work settles.

Your therapist takes no sides in session. The client is the relationship, and the work is with the pattern between you rather than with either person's list of grievances.

Crisis support

If one of you needs help right now.

Anchor & Bloom is not a crisis service. If either of you is in crisis in Hamilton, the following are available:

  • Suicide Crisis Helpline: call or text 988 (24/7, Canada-wide)
  • Talk Suicide Canada: 1-833-456-4566 (24/7), text 45645 (4 pm to midnight ET)
  • COAST Hamilton (Crisis Outreach and Support Team): 905-972-8338 (24/7)
  • Barrett Centre for Crisis Support: 905-529-7878 (24/7)
  • If anyone is in immediate danger, call 911

Common questions from couples in Hamilton.

Do you have an office in Hamilton?

No. Our office is in Mississauga at 6700 Century Ave, about 40 to 45 minutes from Hamilton via the 403. Hamilton couples work with us online through Jane, a PHIPA-compliant Canadian platform. In-person sessions in Mississauga are available if you want them, but we do not build the work around the drive.

We work opposite shifts. Can this still work?

Usually, yes. Evening and some weekend slots exist, and both partners can join the same video session from different places if one of you is at work. If your shifts change week to week, tell your clinician on the consultation and the cadence can flex rather than lock to a fixed weekday.

What does couples therapy cost?

Couples sessions are $200 for 50 minutes or $290 for 80 minutes, HST-exempt. The 15-minute consultation is free. Receipts come through Jane. Many extended health plans cover Registered Psychotherapist services, though couples sessions are sometimes treated differently from individual therapy, so confirm with your insurer.

Is online couples therapy effective?

For most couples, research on video-delivered couples work supports it as a reasonable option. The strongest predictor is whether both partners show up consistently, and removing a 90-minute round trip makes that far more likely for Hamilton couples. If in-person would clearly help, we will say so and offer Mississauga.

Which clinicians see Hamilton couples?

Katelyn Matias, Daniella Simas Medeiros, Rashin Heydari-Alamdari, Kristen Lawrynowycz and Mahima Chauhan see couples online or in person in Mississauga. Julia Malynka works with couples online, including in Russian and Ukrainian. Rashin also works in Farsi and Mahima in Gujarati and Hindi.
