Couples therapy · Toronto

Couples therapy for Toronto partners.

Online couples therapy for partners living in Toronto, with in-person sessions available at our Mississauga office for couples in the west end who prefer to be in the room. Attachment-based and EFT-informed work for committed partnerships, with CRPO-registered clinicians who take no sides.

We do not have a Toronto office and we will not pretend otherwise. What we offer Toronto couples is a small practice with six clinicians who do couples work, evening availability, sessions in English, Farsi, Gujarati, Hindi, Russian and Ukrainian, and a Mississauga office that is a realistic drive from Etobicoke, Mimico, the Junction and Bloor West on a weekend.

Why Toronto

Couples in Toronto and the west end.

Toronto couples tend to arrive with a specific kind of exhaustion: two demanding careers, a condo that is too small for the argument, a commute or a hybrid schedule that means you are rarely home at the same time, and a rent or mortgage that makes every money conversation feel like a fight about the future. Online sessions from home, a lunch hour, or a booked meeting room mean the therapy does not become one more thing you cannot both make it to.

Toronto is also where many couples are the first generation to build a relationship on their own terms, sometimes across cultures, faiths or languages that their families never expected to mix. That is not a problem to be solved in therapy. It is context, and the clinicians who work in Farsi, Gujarati, Hindi, Russian and Ukrainian bring it into the room rather than working around it.

What we work on

The patterns couples bring.

The same argument on repeat

One partner pursues, the other withdraws, and the topic changes but the shape never does. We slow the cycle down until both of you can see it from the outside.

Repair after a rupture

Trust that took a hit, from a betrayal or from years of small misses. Repair is deliberate work, and it is possible when both partners want it.

Parallel lives

Two competent people running a household like a logistics company, with the closeness leaking out the sides. Common in dual-career and new-parent couples.

Two families, two cultures

Interfaith, intercultural and immigrant partnerships where the pull of family expectations lands unevenly on each of you.

Before the wedding

Pre-marital work on money, children, faith, in-laws and conflict style, before those conversations become emergencies.

Deciding whether to stay

Discernment work when one or both of you is unsure. The goal is clarity you both own, not a verdict from us.

How it starts

The first few weeks.

It begins with a free 15-minute consultation, ideally with both of you on the call. You describe what brought you here, we describe how we work, and you decide whether the fit feels right. Nobody is assessed and nothing is decided on that call.

Most couples book the 80-minute session for the first appointment. Fifty minutes is enough to maintain momentum later, but rarely enough to get a full picture of two people at the start. From there a weekly or biweekly rhythm is typical, reviewed together as the work settles.

Your therapist takes no sides in session. The client is the relationship, and the work is with the pattern between you rather than with either person's list of grievances.

Crisis support

If one of you needs help right now.

Anchor & Bloom is not a crisis service. If either of you is in crisis in Toronto, the following are available:

  • Suicide Crisis Helpline: call or text 988 (24/7, Canada-wide)
  • Talk Suicide Canada: 1-833-456-4566 (24/7), text 45645 (4 pm to midnight ET)
  • Distress Centres of Greater Toronto: 416-408-4357 (24/7)
  • Gerstein Crisis Centre: 416-929-5200 (24/7)
  • If anyone is in immediate danger, call 911

Common questions from couples in Toronto.

Do you have an office in Toronto?

No. Our only office is in Mississauga at 6700 Century Ave, near the 401 and 403. Toronto couples work with us online, and some in the west end drive to Mississauga for in-person sessions, usually on a weekend or evening when the 427 and 401 are clear. Psychotherapy is regulated province-wide in Ontario, so our clinicians can work with anyone located in Ontario.

How does online couples therapy work if we are in the same apartment?

Both of you join the same Jane video link from one device, or from two devices in different rooms if that helps you speak freely. Headphones help. Fifty-minute sessions work well for maintenance; most Toronto couples choose the 80-minute session at the start so nobody is rushed.

Is online couples therapy as effective as in person?

For most couples, research on video-delivered couples work supports it as a reasonable option, and the biggest predictor is whether both partners show up consistently. Online removes the commute that stops a lot of Toronto couples from doing that. If the work would clearly benefit from being in the room, we will say so and offer Mississauga.

What does couples therapy cost, and does insurance cover it?

Couples sessions are $200 for 50 minutes or $290 for 80 minutes, HST-exempt. The 15-minute consultation is free. Receipts come through Jane. Most extended health plans cover Registered Psychotherapist services, but some treat couples sessions differently from individual therapy, so confirm with your insurer before you book.

Can we book with a clinician who speaks our language?

Rashin Heydari-Alamdari offers couples sessions in Farsi and English. Mahima Chauhan works in Gujarati, Hindi and English. Julia Malynka works online in Russian, Ukrainian and English. Ask for the clinician you want on the free consultation and we will route you directly.
